Custom Iron Entry Doors, Built and Installed on Long Island

Three real ones. They’re heavy — a double runs 600 to 900 pounds, so the header and framing have to be sound, which is why we check at the measure and not on install day. They take six months, because each one is forged to your drawing. And steel conducts cold: in a sustained deep freeze you can see condensation on the interior face of any metal door. Ours are foam-insulated in both the slab and the frame, with dual-pane Low-E argon glass and heavy weatherstripping around the jamb and every glass frame, which is what keeps that to a minimum. If any of those are dealbreakers, a fiberglass door is a legitimate choice and we’ll tell you so.

Wrought iron is hand-forged: scrollwork, texture, the traditional look. Steel is milled, so it gives you thinner sightlines and more glass — the modern look. We build both in the same shop at similar prices. Most Long Island colonials get iron; most new builds get steel.

Salt air is hard on any exterior metal and we won’t pretend otherwise. The finish is zinc-galvanized, primed, blasted and clear-coated, and it carries a two-year warranty. What matters as much as that number is year five: the system is deliberately repairable on site, and we’re the ones who come out. A national brand shipping you a crate can’t do that — and most of them exclude coastal coverage from their warranty entirely. Read the exclusions in any national warranty; they’re usually there.

Two things in the house make it worse — high indoor humidity and a heat vent blowing straight at the door — and we’ll walk you through both at the measure.

A like-for-like replacement in an existing opening usually doesn’t need a permit in Nassau or Suffolk. Widening the opening does. HOA and historic districts vary — we’ll tell you what’s required before you order, not after.

Most aren’t. We laser-measure and build the frame to the opening you actually have. If we find rot, a failing header or a sill that has to be rebuilt, you get that price at the measure — with a number — not a surprise on install day.

One day, and your house is never open. Old unit out and new unit in happens inside the same few hours. We set the frame plumb, foam and seal it, hang the hardware, finish the drywall and paint, and clean up before dark. You sleep behind your new door that night.
